A Showcase of Talent and Mentorship Competition Knockout
A t the end of last year, CALA hosted its second Culinary Knockout Competition in partnership with the SoCalGas Energy Resource Center in Downey, California. This extraordinary event provided a platform for senior living chefs to showcase their culinary mastery while mentoring promising culinary protégés from regional community colleges and introducing them to exciting culinary career opportunities. The 2023 competition was a day filled with camaraderie, mentorship and culinary excellence. Participating companies and senior living representatives had the chance to network with other professionals and highlight career opportunities at their dedicated tables. The highlight of the event was the grand moment when the Culinary Knockout Champions were crowned. The deserving
senior living chef, Bernardo Boyboy from Oakmont Management Group , not only received a magnificent championship belt but also a dazzling crystal award, while the students were awarded valuable cash prizes. The student assistants were Cagla Bazley from Cypress College and Robert Hecht from Chaffey College . This event was more than a competition; it was a celebration of culinary talent and a testament to the vibrant future of the culinary profession. The synergy between seasoned chefs and aspiring culinary students underscored the importance of mentorship and community in fostering the next generation of culinary professionals.
