over letters sent by CALA members to legislators and the governor 600

87 CALA members met with legislators in their district offices

Legislative Certificate LEGISLATORS ARE EAGER TO CELEBRATE THEIR CONSTITUENTS AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS BY SENDING CERTIFICATES HONORING RESIDENT BIRTHDAYS, STAFF ANNIVERSARIES AND COMMUNITY MILESTONES TO CALA MEMBERS IN THEIR DISTRICT. MOST RECENTLY, SENATOR CATHERINE BLAKESPEAR PRESENTED LAGUNA ESTATES WITH A CERTIFICATE TO CELEBRATE ITS GRAND REOPENING AND ASSEMBLYMEMBER STEPHANIE NGUYEN PRESENTED A STAFF MEMBER AT REVERE COURT MEMORY CARE WITH A CERTIFICATE HONORING HER 20-YEAR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. IF YOU HAVE AN IMPORTANT ANNIVERSARY OR BIRTHDAY COMING UP IN YOUR COMMUNITY, BE SURE TO LET MADDIE ROBBIE KNOW, SO THAT WE CAN HELP COORDINATE CERTIFICATES FOR THE EVENT. INVITING LEGISLATORS AND STAFF TO BIRTHDAYS AND EVENTS IS A GREAT WAY TO CONTINUE TO ENGAGE WITH VETERAN LEGISLATORS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH ASSISTED LIVING.

these meetings led to legislative visits at their communities, and follow-up policy questions from legislators and their staff.

CALA member advocacy continued at the federal level this year, working in support of Argentum and providers nationwide. Congressional Representatives throughout the state visited CALA member communities to present certificates to staff and residents for celebrations, townhalls, and tours. Not only were federal policymakers able to see firsthand how federal legislation impacts communities in California, but they were also able to meet with constituents who reside and work in communities throughout their districts. This year, CALA members sent over 600 letters urging legislators and the governor to pass, amend or veto legislation impacting providers in California. From urging the Legislature to pass and Gov. Newsom to sign SB 101 to alleviate Guardian backlogs to writing to the Assembly urging a “no” vote on SB 525, CALA members helped amplify CALA’s message and make an impact. CALA members are an essential part of CALA’s public policy and advocacy efforts. Members help shape CALA’s positions, help impact legislation, build relationships with legislators and staff in Sacramento and the district. As the fall recess begins to wrap up and legislators return to Sacramento in January for the second year of this session, be sure to continue to get to know your legislators and their staff and invite them to visit your community. And consider joining CALA’s Rapid Response Team to share your experience on timely issues that help shape policy by emailing Selena Coppi Hornback and asking to join the Rapid Response Team.
