As technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, new solutions that support resident care, safety and operational excellence in senior living will continue to emerge, adapt and transform the profession. CALA remains committed to staying informed about these innovations, learning from the experiences of our members and fostering meaningful dialogue around their implementation. Equally important, CALA will continue to work closely with the Department of Social Services to ensure that the adoption of new technologies is thoughtfully considered within the framework of existing laws and regulations, while advocating for policies that support innovation, protect residents and enable providers to deliver the highest quality of care. 

Fall detection AI systems have already demonstrated that they can reduce the number and severity of falls. There is significant competition in this space that will likely lead to continuing innovation and ever improving products. Resident falls are a primary concern in senior living and any system that can significantly reduce the number and severity of falls will be a useful tool in risk management. Two-way communication systems allow caregivers to immediately interact with a resident who has summoned help and determine immediately whether a call is urgent and to triage accordingly. This is a valuable tool that helps when caregivers are tending to a resident and then receive notification that a resident has pushed their pendant.
