Artwork by Doris Smolich
The artwork featured here was created by Doris Smolich, a resident at Ivy Park at Sabre Springs in San Diego. At 97 years old, Doris continues to take great pride in the artwork she has created over the years, much of which is displayed in her room. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Doris developed a love of art at an early age, inspired by her father's hobby of illustration. She later explored painting, pottery, knitting and crocheting, eventually selling many of her creations and teaching knitting and crocheting in Sacramento. Her passion for art also inspired her daughter, who became a professional glass artist. "Art is very relaxing,” Doris said. “I appreciate the beauty of art and the process of creating from start to finish. Art has been one of the greatest joys of my life."
